Koh Chang : 9 Days Expedition

This day is all about getting to know each other (expedition participants and your S.E.A. Kayaking local guide) and all the equipment we will be using.   After checking into your resort for the evening (as provided by S.E.A. Kayaking), our taxi will pick you up at your reception at 15.00 and bring you to our office.   At this point, we discuss the route and complete paperwork, such as medical/contact forms, and answer any questions our customers have. While we are together, we will get fitted out with all the equipment we will be using throughout the expedition.   Kayak, Life Jacket, paddle. We also have time during the day, to do any adjustments needed. The dry bags will be provided during the day for your packing. We will not be on the water. There is no food provided on familiarization day.

Our taxi will pick you all up at your resort at 9.00 am and bring you to the office.  Please come ready with your kayaking kit already packed. The luggage you are not taking with you on the expedition will be placed in our office, for safe keeping whilst you are away. You will need your passport for your expedition, as the Thai government now requires all resorts to monitor their customers. From the beach, we are afforded a panoramic view of the islands that await us. Once we have packed our kayaks and orientated ourselves. We set out for the north onto a rock garden we can practice our silky-smooth skills before reaching Chai Chet. Then we will be continuing up for Pearl Beach, which is a strange name as there is no beach, then White Sands Beach. On this day, we will stop at Ao Supparod which is close to the ferry pier when you go by land. This is still very much a local area for local people with a lovely bay. A/C, restaurant, and hot water are included.

After breakfast, we continue our journey down the east coast past Tom Mai Yom Campsite and Waterfall (optional visit). We will stop at the nice coffee shop for a break then journey down to Kooncharaburi Resort.A/C, restaurant, and hot water.

From the Salak kok, we continue our journey down to Koh Ngam which is a small island, 400 meters off the southeast of Koh Chang. It was privately owned by National Park. After break, we will cross to Koh Laoya Nok (3.5 km) then continue to cross the open water to Koh Wai (3km). From the beach, we have rewarded a panoramic view of the islands that await us which is one of the best snorkeling spots in the whole park. Remark: The accommodation in Koh Wai is very limited. There is the possibility to get the shared toilet options or a ruined Bangalow. The electricity is also limited not the whole night. If we get this option, we will compensate by upgrading the quality of accommodation on other days.

Departing Koh Wai, we continue to North West, then explore the South West coast. We will stop at the private beach for lunch. After the break, we look South over the open sea towards Koh Kham After the break, we look South over the 8 km open sea towards Koh Kham, a little island that is unique by its black volcanic rocks, white sand, and crystal clear waters to the northwest of Koh Mak. From here we kayak down to the resort in Koh Mak South West. A/C, Restaurant, Pool, and hot water are included.

Departing Koh Mak, we continue to the west by passing Koh Rayang Nai and Koh Rayang Nok then look over the open sea towards Koh Rang Yai. Koh Rang Yai is a protected National Park island inhabited only by the Thai navy. Now 6Km of the open sea lies ahead of us then do the circumnavigation Koh Rang and underwater exploration awaits us as just around the corner are two, first class snorkel spots. A deep water entry allows us VIP access to the beautiful coral reefs and to the wide variety of exotic fish. When we arrive at camp, the tents will be up and ready to occupy and the coffee (real coffee) will be in the pot. To facilitate a good night sleep, S.E.A. Kayaking will provide wonderful food, a pillow case, sleeping bag liner, an inflatable pillow, Sleeping Mat, and a small fan!

Today’s longest distance await for us, we continue to Koh Kra (2 km) and then continue sea crossing from Koh Kra to Koh Wai (9 km). We will break and one of the beautiful beach in Koh Wai named Ao Yai Ma for lunch, then 3 KM crossing to Lao Ya Nok and stopping at Lao Ya Nai. The last section of this day is another 5 km crossing to Koh Chang, Salakphet Area. A/C, restaurant, and hot water are included.

From the resort, we are afforded a panoramic view of the islands that await us. Once we have packed our kayaks, gear and briefed, we set out for Salak Phet Bay, Koh Prao Nok then continued to the Koh Chang southwest coast stopping at Wai Chaek Beach, and end the day at Bang Bao A/C, restaurant, and hot water are included.

The west coast of Koh Chang has some of the best rock formations in the National Park.  With 5Km of inaccessible coastline ahead, our journey up the West coast offers us ample opportunity to express ourselves. Gliding between rocks, carving turns, and testing our skills against the waves, there are challenges for all abilities during this first section of the day.  At last, the excitement ends as we make our way around Bailan Bay headland, one last flurry of interest presents itself as there are several shallow caves that have extensive bat populations. Lunch on the restaurant at Lonely Beach or enjoy pre packed food at Koh Man Nai. The remaining back to Magic Resort offers us a time to reflect on our journey and revel in our achievement. We have completed our 9 days expedition and should all feel extremely proud of ourselves!
